Frozen Motion

You would not know by this image. After all, the water is running on top of the ice so you get the feeling that spring is in the air. In reality, this image was taken on a cold December 28 at Cascade River State Park in Minnesota and the air temperature was 19 below Fahrenheit. The unusual nature of the waterfall in this image is not just in the flowing water. The ice underneath and along the sides of the waterfall appears more like cotton candy. With wind chills in the 35 below range you don’t stay long.  You head down stream for a look and head in to warm up.
