Exposed
You are out for a hike at Jay Cooke State Park near Duluth Minnesota. You cross the suspension bridge over the river and continue up-steam. With a short walk you come across this tree, which is about 30 feet in from the St. Louis River. The tree is adjacent to where the river takes it’s turn towards Lake Superior. Snow melt, spring rains and heavy summer storms will force the dam to be opened. You cannot help but wonder how many spring floods did it took to reveal this much of the root system.
