You are out for a hike at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park on Minnesota’s North Shore on a pleasant June Day. As you hike along the shoreline checking out the various views of the lighthouse you spot a curious sight. There is a small piece of birch bark on the rocks. It was fresh, untouched by the water and yards away from any tree. So how did it get on the rocks? Did the wind blow it down onto the rocks or did someone drop it there? Who knows.
