Close your eyes for a moment and imagine you are lying on a beach somewhere warm, maybe even tropical. The warm breeze is blowing gently across you. Waves are washing up on shore in a regular rhythm. They create a gentle beat, a sound that relaxes you, relieves any pent up stresses.

It’s a great sound and feeling but now open your eyes. That sound is not coming from the ocean on a tropical beach. You are in fact in the picnic area at Temperance River State Park along Minnesota’s North Shore. The beach is not sandy but Lake Superior does have an ocean quality to it. As you look at what appears to be a never ending body of water the waves have the same relaxing quality to them.

For unique views get down at the water level and take in the view. Watch the waves wash up on shore and then retreat. From this angle the water takes on another face.
